Dead scooter

My scooter died last night. The engine kept running while making horrible noises until I stopped, then it died instead of idling. Now the starter sounds like it's not attached to the engine (spins at high speed, doesn't turn the engine over). I'm going to drop it off at AMR for a diagnosis and estimate, but if the repair is going to be more than about $300 then I might as well just buy a new scooter instead. Anyone out there do scooter repair for less than $60/hr?

Until further notice, I am on foot (or might pick up a $25 bike at a thrift shop).

Damn that sucks man. If I was there I would offer to move your scooter again to wherever you were getting it repaired...but since I'm not, good luck. :(

I hope things work out well, and it's just something minor that needs to be replaced.

The mechanic my roommates and I use told me he occasionally works on scooters and motorcycles. He's kinda...independent I guess? Not shady per se, but he only works in cash, and his garage (it's just him there) isn't open all the time, you have to call him and make an appointment. But he is very honest and always good to all of us and very reasonable. His name is Robert at Condor Automotive: 100 E Lake Dr
Decatur, GA 30030-3524
(404) 377-5806
If you get a voicemail leave a message and he will get back to you, tell him you were referred by Amanda w/the purple Ford Contour & her roommates Steph & Rachael.
