Bad start to the weekend

Tonight was going to be a great start to the weekend. Kelly had a ticket to A Night At Hotel Zeppelin for me. I got tickets to #TigerStyle. I left work on time and... then it all went to shit.

Someone double parked me in, in a company vehicle. I made a few bad decisions, and a few that appeared bad to the police but I'm pretty sure I can justify to a judge.

I have the contact and insurance information for one Antony Minneboo, a project manager for Team Commercial construction, who, among other things, intentionally left his vehicle double parked after retrieving his ticket, rammed my vehicle with his, and kicked me (as I was moving his vehicle with wheel jacks). All of this while the parking enforcement agent was watching. He wasn't happy when I used wheel jacks to move his truck out of the way.

I have tickets for the following:

1) Driving with a suspended California license. I don't *HAVE* a California license. I'm not sure what's up with this. Apparently I have an "X Number" which might have something to do with my employer asking the DMV for info about me at some point? I'll investigate this. Pretty sure this isn't legit.

2) Driving "out of class", for not having a CDL to drive my bus. One of the officers insisted that anything with air brakes requires a class B license in California. I've since re-re-re-checked every document I can find on the DMV website, and I'm still pretty sure I don't need a CDL to drive a motorhome <26000lbs regardless of the air brake situation. I'm gonna investigate this further. Pretty sure this isn't legit.

3) No proof of insurance at the scene. My bus isn't listed on the insurance card I was carrying, so they wouldn't even take down the info on it. I'm probably on the hook for this one.

4/5) Crossing a double yellow line & driving the wrong way. In my haste to escape before the other driver rammed me again, I made a wide turn out of my parking space, which put me on the wrong side of the road on the way to finishing the turn. I didn't finish the turn because the police arrived in front of me at this point, and I pulled over when they turned their lights on. This put me parked facing the wrong way. The double yellow citation is actually invalid; it's for a divided highway, not a normal road with just two lines. I am hopeful that a diagram of the location and the turn I was making, in addition to the situation with the other driver, will convince a judge that I wasn't in the wrong on the driving direction thing.

The cops said I couldn't drive it away, and they were going to tow it due to where it was parked. I called AAA, with whom I have "Plus RV" level service. I asked for a tow. They asked me all sorts of questions about my vehicle, including length, wheels, axles, fuel. The nature of the vehicle was very clear. They asked me where I wanted it towed to, and I gave them a lot in SF. 40 minutes later, a pickup truck arrived. The driver of that truck said AAA doesn't tow RVs in San Francisco at all. I'm on the phone with AAA right now asking about this situation. They say my bus doesn't qualify for their RV service, which I will deal with at another time. I'm drilling them on why they didn't send a tow truck when they said they were sending a tow truck.

So, the cops towed the bus. I can't retrieve belongings from it until Monday, maybe not until I get the bus back. I might not get the bus itself back for a few days past that, even. The documents I need to get it back might be in it. Catch 22 much? I could end up waiting for certified documents *in the mail* from Mississippi :/

I need to go clothes shopping. I might be crashing at work, or checking for space at The Embassy Network. I might still make it to an event tonight, despite having no clean clothes. I've got to deal with the insurance thing, and continue talking to AAA, and talk to SFPD about the requirements to release the bus. I've got to make a few posts on reddit or some other forum where I can find insights about some local laws. I've got to compose an email

Unfortunately, my phone only caught about half of everything on video. It missed the other driver hitting the bus with his truck. It heard but didn't see him kicking me. I'll be checking nearby buildings for security cameras. I'll also be accelerating my plans for 360 degree video coverage of the bus. And I'll be composing a firm email to his employer, given that he was driving a company [logo] truck at a job site.

The suspended license belonged to my father. Same name. Cops filed an amendment of the citation and apologized.

1 down, 4 to go.
