Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sabrina_pandora for pointing this manifesto out to me.  As of today, I am no longer recognizing marriage.  This should make for some interesting conversation, and more than a few evil looks.

Well, because of the company you keep, you're likely going to be preaching to the choir. Besides, I know several gay couples who are "married" and I wouldn't do them the dishonor of calling a wife or husband of one of them by the name girlfriend or boyfriend just because their marriage is not recognized by the same government authority as my marriage. Treating people how they want to be treated is the key.

I understand the statement behind the manifesto, but I don't think it will do what the writer hopes it will. It will likely just come across as disrespectful rather than purposeful.

Well, for some of my company, I agree. But my workplace and board gaming clubs are quite vanilla; I expect more thoughtful discourse and strange looks in those circles.
