The Frosted Fetish Ball, hosted by The Secret Room at the Jungle, was definitely an awesome way to kick off the year. The place was packed from 11PM on, dance floor covered in people the whole time. I got to say hi to a bunch of people that I haven't seen since Frolicon, or Twisted Toyland for a few minutes. Had a chance to have some longer conversations with some new acquaintances than I have before, and that was good in a number of ways. Got a few more inquiries about hiring where I work, which is still going on and anyone with tech support skills is welcome to email me a resume.

For the most part I hung out with [livejournal.com profile] allison_smiley and her friends and friends of friends. A fun crowd that I encounter at a lot of nightlife and convention events, need to get to know some of them better.

Had a little fun with my gloves, as always, but the high point(s) of the night was my first chance to use my new TENS unit on someone other than myself. I had used a less featureful TENS on someone else before, but the wide range of control in my unit made it a lot more challenging to hit the sweet spots. It's a very different experience; I need to practice picking up the subtle reactions to changes in stimuli, something that is moot when I can feel it myself, or when I don't have the option to change more than one or two parameters of the experience. A few folks enjoyed individual attention, but the more interesting times were had with various people hooked up with interfering current patterns, so that when they touched (for various varieties of "touch") the current passed through them.

All in all a great night, and a reminder (after over 2 months of no cons!) of how much I am going to enjoy Chattacon.

[edit] Some points brought up in comments that I neglected to mention...
The police presence was unusual, I have never been to a club with cops there full time. That may have had some impact on...
A few people that I know came expecting some dungeon equipment, at least a spanking bench. The one cross in the middle of the main room was far too crowded to use. The side room that got commandeered for a few small scenes would make a great miniature dungeon for future events, padded seating around the perimeter, room for a cross and one or two spanking benches on one wall and in the middle.

Speaking of... my TENS has an audio input. Without prior investigation I was unprepared to use that feature at the club. Can you tell me what sort of connection I would need to get an audio feed from a typical DJ booth setup, assuming the DJ and/or host are willing, that is. I could connect to any sort of headphone or monitor output, if there is such, with the appropriate adapters. As I understand it, what the DJ hears in their own headphones is often not what is being played over the sound system, so simply splitting that would not work.

usually when i record the signal to my MAC for podcasts, it's RCA out.

Plain stereo RCA (two jacks) or something more complex? Would you expect most booths to have a spare output of that sort, or would I need a splitter?

most of them have at least one MASTER RCA out and a RECORD RCA out that are not used because most clubs use the XLR out, which is a better signal and more of the "standard".

I always have a great time partying with you Sparr baby. That TENS unit was really cool, I think my teeth are still chattering from all that making out. ;)

I am so incredibly annoyed that I didn't get to go, due to this fracking flu-bug. Not only did it seem like it was going to be a blast, but a couple that I haven't seen in six months was going to be there, likely primed and ready to play. Curses!!!

On that note, there was surprisingly little play. A few people that I know came expecting at least some sort of dungeon space, even if only a bench or two. One side room tended to be used for various small scenes, but the only furniture was a double sided cross by the dance floor, which suffered from crowding issues.

Hmm, well that is disappointing. And from your post, it sounds like the venue was so crowded in general that it would be hard to create space. I know that even at Phobia, I've been forced to bend someone over a random chair before, because the equipment was all in use.

Well, there is one room that would do quite nicely, it's maybe 12'x16' with a shallow bench around 3 walls. A single cross and two spanking benches would fit quite nicely. It is the room that got used for the smaller scenes anyways. I think the major deterrent to public play was the police presence. I've never been at a club permanently stocked with cops before, this event had two, one watching the door and one wandering.

I wasn't aware that there was a police presence there. Yeah, I can definitely see how that would stifle play somewhat. I wonder if the club has had some security issues before that necessitate cops being there, or whether they were there just for this event. Your message seems to indicate that it's a permanent thing though.
