When I was 10 I had a serious bicycle accident that left me in a leg brace for 6 months. After 16 incident-free years I thought it was about time to fall off the horse again, and fate obliged. On my way to a job interview today I pulled up short as a car in front of me suddenly slowed and turned right. And by "short" I mean that I gave an impromptu demonstration of Newton's First Law by somersaulting over my handlebars into what luckily turned out to be a very little bit of road and a lot of nice soft grass. I can thank that bit of road for my broken wrist and 9 stitches, and the grass for my lack of a broken arm or more serious injuries. An open wound over the break, which extends into the joint, made the doc suggest exploratory surgery to rule out the possibility of foreign matter in the bone. He said the chances were very slim so I had to pass on the surgery; I won't be able to pay the EMT and hospital bill as it is, let alone another few $K that will just weigh down my credit report even even more.

I must attend to a previous commitment at home this evening then I am going to break into my emergency stash of the good stuff and spend as long as possible unconscious.

o_0 Oh man, and I thought my bicycle accident was tragic. How long for your wrist to heal? Will you be able to pick up a camera at D*C?

6-8 weeks... Just in time for D*C if I am lucky. Of course, there is the slight problem of likely not having a camera by then, but that's another matter entirely.
