My life is in a state of heavy flux right now. Big things are changing, and I'm writing this to keep track. In December I lost my job at Peer1.com because I wouldn't sit quietly while someone stealthily sabotaged my department. I've mostly given up on my warehouse photo studio business plan, for lack of capital. And I've decided to move to Boston after enjoying a few trips up there.

1 month plans:
I am accepting a job at Dell SecureWorks right now. I'll be mired in paperwork for the next week or so and starting orientation in about two weeks. The job involves writing software to be used by other technical people in my department, as well as some systems administration and network angles as well. I chose this job over some offers and potential opportunities in Boston because it will be easier for me to move in a few months than right now, and because the remote work opportunity really appeals to me. Dell's potential for relocation, as well as upwards and sideways career mobility, also played a large factor.
I am telling everyone who has been taking up large chunks of my warehouse to GTFO. One housemate has a trailer with flat tires stuck there, and the contents disgorged across the space for "sorting", which has been ongoing for 5 months. Another friend has a mechanical shop set up inside, which was a favor for yet another friend who was supposed to let him move the shop into their space "in a month", three months ago. A few other housemates have simply dropped off carts and pallets of random items to store (read: forget about). All of that is done, ASAP.
I am not sure what I'm doing with the warehouse. I might find someone to take over my lease, or I might try making some money with it in a clean-but-empty state (such as for band practice, paintball matches, photos, etc), or maybe something else entirely. No matter what I'm doing with it, I need to empty it out. The new job will put enough money in my pocket to quickly finish the demolition and cleaning work, and that will put me in a good position to accomplish something with it finally.
I'll be reaching out to my social network to find a room to crash in on the north side of town. I can commute from West End to Dunwoody on MARTA, but I'd rather not, and if I can find a closet near work for $200/mo I'd take advantage of that.

3 month plans:
I want to visit Boston about once a month until I move. I'll use these opportunities to exercise a membership at a makerspace there (Artisan's Asylum, and possibly another), hunt for a place to live, socialize with the geeky / maker / kinky / burner communities, do some dating and this-isn't-a-date-ing, and have some quality time with Kat.
Once D2 is cleared out, I'll be showing it to friends who want to use it for events and to take it over. I'll be using it to make money however I can until I get rid of it, or I move, or the lease runs out.
I've got an idea for a recurring barter event using Math Trade logic to make multi-person trades happen. I'm going to test-run it soon, and if it works then I'm going to pursue putting together a software package to automate it. Most of the work is already done in another package, but it's tightly integrated with a domain-specific website, so I'll see if I can get access to that source code first.
I'm going to arrange to ship some truckloads of stuff toward Boston some time before I move. I've got a lot of things from my warehouse that I'd like to make use of up there, and don't want to deal with all of that on the final moving day. I'll need to arrange a place to keep things, and find someone to handle the logistics on that end as well.

6 month plans:
I'll be living in the Boston area by mid summer. Probably Cambridge or somewhere else off the north half of the MBTA red line, but that remains to be determined.
Once I have reliable access to a well equipped makerspace I plan to start doing a lot more crafty things. I'll be building furniture for my new place, as well as kinky toys to use or sell.
I'll be looking at educational opportunities in Boston. I don't want to pursue a degree, but I do want to solidify the fringes of my skillset. Maybe with university courses, maybe with certification courses, maybe technical training, maybe group sessions for open coursework. I'm not sure what, but it's time to add some Education to my resume.

Those are all the big things on my mind right now. If you want to help with any of this, or help me make or change my plans, get in touch.
